The fear that is created and surrounds the anticipation of birth, can have a hugely negative impact on a woman's birthing experience. This fear, creates tension in the body and mind, particularly in the contraction of the muscles of the womb. Resulting in a reverse affect of the natural process of dilation of the birth canal in labour. One of the most helpful comments I received when I was pregnant with my son, was at my pregnancy yoga class and our teacher simply saying, 'your body knows what to do' !! She was right, it does! This allowed me to relax and enjoy each and every stage of my pregnancy and birth, I trusted myself! Fear will naturally create resistance, which in turn causes pain!! The uterus is highly sensitive, with many nerve endings, these receptors receive the 'pain' information and can totally change our experience of birth!
